Vascular Laser Treatment

Spider veins are small clusters of blue, red or purple veins that appear on the thighs, calves, face or ankles, which become more noticeable with age. They can become unsightly, and sometimes even painful. Sometimes, spider veins are treated by injecting a sclerosing solution into the vein. However, the Sciton Laser System makes treatment less invasive without the use of needles.

You will meet with one of our licensed estheticians or practitioners to discuss your goals and wishes for treatment. They will ask you about your medical history and examine any affected areas. Then they will decide on an appropriate treatment plan for you.

You may be a good candidate for laser sclerotherapy if you have:

• General good health
• Realistic expectations
• Spider veins that are visible and cause you to be self-conscious
• Veins that cause aching, swelling and cramping

It is recommended that you avoid blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen and aspirin for several days before the procedure. We also recommend shaving the day before treatment. This is because darker hairs can absorb the energy, making treatment less effective. Wear comfortable loose-fitting pants or shorts to your appointment.

You will lie on your back with your legs slightly elevated and they will use the Sciton Laser to emit energy which is absorbed by the blood vessels. Some patients report a stinging or snapping sensation as the tissue absorbs the energy, but it is very quick. Discomfort is minimized by applying a cooling window.

In addition to the very effective cooling window of the Sciton machine, they may also apply gel pads to the treated area for more comfort. There is no downtime following this treatment.

Patients usually report diminished appearance of spider veins and reticular veins. There is also usually relief of physical discomfort caused by veins. The effects of the treatment are instant and visible.
