Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)
An arm lift (or brachioplasty) is a surgical procedure that reduces excess sagging of the skin on the arms. The skin on the underside of your arms may become loose and sagging due to extreme weight loss or the natural aging process. Dr. Oser may also tighten the underlying tissue in the arm and reduce excess fat, depending on the individual patient.
Like other body lifts, an arm lift removes excess fatty tissue and skin. The results are taut, attractive arms and the confidence to wear short sleeves or tank tops again. A good candidate for an arm lift is one who recently lost weight and has excess skin on the inner and outer arm areas. Liposuction may be used to enhance results.

Consultation
During your consultation with Dr. Oser, you will learn about the arm lift procedure and decide if it is right for you. Dr. Oser will examine you and ask questions about your health history. He will then create a treatment plan for you.
Considerations
You may be a candidate for an arm lift if you have:
- General good health
- Realistic expectations
- Sagging and loose skin on the underside of your arms
- You plan to keep your weight stable
Preparation Before Your Procedure
Three weeks prior to and three weeks after your surgery, try to limit your alcohol and tobacco intake. Two weeks prior to and two weeks after your surgery, do not take medication that may thin your blood such as aspirin or ibuprofen products.
The Evening Before Your Procedure
The evening prior to your surgery, please refrain from eating or drinking anything including water. Please do not smoke and check with Dr. Oser regarding any medication that you are taking regularly.
Procedure
Dr. Oser will place you under general anesthesia for your comfort during the surgery. An incision will be made from the area of your armpit to your elbow. The exact placement and length of the incision will depend on the individual patient. Excess fat is removed via liposuction. The underlying tissues can be recontoured and supported with internal sutures. Excess skin is removed and the incision is closed back up with absorbable stitches. Whenever possible, twilight anesthesia/sedation is used. This process allows for a more comfortable and quicker recovery.
Recovery
Post-surgery, your arms will be wrapped in bandages and you may be required to wear compression garments. This will support the arms and help reduce swelling. Occasionally, drains will be placed in the incisions. Dr. Oser will give you specific instructions regarding your dressings and pain management, as well as when you can resume normal activity.
Results
While results may vary, an arm lift can make a dramatic change in not only your appearance, but also your outlook on life. Many patients enjoy an increase in self-confidence and find a new enjoyment in their slimmer, trimmer upper arms and forearms. Dr. Oser may recommend liposuction as a complementary service to maximize your desired result.
