Face Lift

Aging often results in a loss of muscle tone and excess skin on the face and neck. A facelift can help reverse the effects of aging on your appearance by removing lines, wrinkles and excess skin, helping you regain a naturally youthful appearance. A facelift provides an overall lift to the lower third of your face by tightening loose skin in the cheeks, neck and jawline.

Available Options

There are two types of facelift options available. Your physician will help you decide whether you are a good candidate for a short-scar facelift or a full facelift. A short-scar facelift is done using advanced, minimally invasive techniques and tends to be a quicker procedure than a full facelift. This results in a shorter recovery time and smaller incision scars.

The facelift procedure can take two to four hours depending on the type of procedure. Whenever possible, twilight anesthesia/sedation will be used. This process allows for a more comfortable and easy recovery.

The cosmetic consultation with Dr. Oser is an important step in the process of considering aesthetic surgery. Dr. Oser and his staff are committed to helping you become well informed about the actual process of preparing for your facelift. Consideration

Your candidacy for this procedure is determined during the consultation phase. Dr. Oser will help you decide whether you are a good candidate for a facelift. He will take into consideration your specific needs, your age, health and various other factors.

Preparation Before Your Procedure

Three weeks prior to and three weeks after your surgery, try to limit your alcohol and tobacco intake. Two weeks prior to and two weeks after your surgery, do not take medication that may thin your blood such as aspirin or ibuprofen products.

The Evening Before Your Procedure

The evening prior to your surgery, please refrain from eating or drinking anything including water. Please do not smoke, and check with Dr. Oser regarding any medication that you are taking regularly.

The Day of Your Procedure

Please refrain from wearing makeup, contact lenses, hairpins, jewelry, body lotion or perfume. Wear comfortable clothing. If you develop a cold, sore throat, fever or any symptoms of illness before your surgery, notify the office.

Please prepare to have a responsible adult available to provide transportation after your procedure and have arrangements made for any necessary assistance you may require for the following 24 hours. If you are a minor, a parent or guardian must accompany you.

Recovery

Just as everyone is an individual, everyone recovers differently. Avoiding strenuous activity and sleeping on your back is recommended for a couple of weeks following surgery. Most patients are back to work within two weeks.

A couple of days after your surgery, Dr. Oser will follow up with you to see how you're healing, answer any questions and, if necessary, prescribe medication.

Results

While results may vary, patients typically enjoy a reverse of the effects of aging of the face and neck. Most patients see a removal of lines, wrinkles and excess skin, helping them regain a naturally youthful appearance. Overall, the patient results in a lift of the lower third of the face and a tightening of loose skin in the cheeks, neck and jaw line. In general, younger patients enjoy longer-lasting results. If you are in your forties, the results may last up to 10 years. If you are in your sixties, your results may last five to seven years.

Dr. Oser may recommend complementary services to maximize your desired result. These may include a brow lift, neck lift, eyelid surgery, nasal surgery, facial implants, chemical peels and laser treatment.
